2002 Clark Claudon Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Napa Valley

Wine Description

(From 2003 Vintage)

This beautifully rich Cabernet has grace, power and sophistication. Its deep garnet depth will catch your attention while the complex layers of ripe black fruit, spicy cedar, violets and minerality will keep it. With hints of truffle oil, a slight meaty edge and perfect balance this full-bodied elegant wine exhibits both power and finesse from its generous mouth feel to its long delicious finish.

89 Points, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate:

"The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate exhibits an evolved dark plum/ruby color already revealing some lightening at the edge. Nevertheless, it is a tasty, seductive effort displaying notes of plums, licorice, black currants, figs, and soy. This medium-bodied, fleshy Cabernet appears to be on a fast evolutionary track, so consumption over the next 7-8 years is recommended." (Dec. 2006)

87 Points, Wine Spectator:

"Firm and intense, with a mix of spice, currant, mineral and herb. The tannins are a bit raw, ending with a dry, leathery edge. Drink now through 2011. 1,800 cases made. –JL" (2007)

86 Points, Wine Enthusiast:

"Lots of new-oaky char and unintegrated wood sap in this dry, tannic wine, with ripe black currant, cherry and chocolate flavors. It’s not particularly drinkable now, such are the astringent tannins, so try cellaring it. — S.H." (9/1/2006)

Vintner Notes

The 2003 celebrates what a mountainside vineyard in its prime can produce. Clark Claudon Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from 100% Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. It is harvested when the sugar, acid and taste are all in optimum balance. Then, rather than follow a formula, we use vinification practices that showcase what each harvest has to offer. After fermentation the wine is aged for two years in medium toast French Oak barrels and then allowed to rest for a year in the bottle before release.

Each hand labeled bottle of wine and each etched and hand dipped large format bottle is designed to fill your senses and bring joy to the moment.

-- Laurie Claudon, Owner

Winemaker's Notes

"This stunning Cabernet Sauvignon first captivates with its dark purple depths, and then intrigues with a flowery bouquet of violets, wild black berries, plums and Asian spice. Layer upon layer, you experience its full body, supple elegance, finesse, perfect balance and Bordeaux style structure. This complex, classic beauty is smooth as silk with a warm, smoky, chocolate finish ...lingering, lingering...yummmm..." -Winery

Truth be told, this wine is simply a chip off the old block. It has the volume and richness of its partner and even shares a touch of earth and green edges with its mate. Full and supple with the expe...

(From 2001 Vintage) "Reminiscent of a great vintage of Chateau Margaux, Clark-Claudon's 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate boasts notes of flowers, graphite, black currants, raspberries, and plums. This tannic, backward 2001 possesses a Bordeaux-like structure as well as a deep, rich, full-bodied personality. Still playing it close to the vest, give it 3-4 more years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades."
