(From 2013 Vintage) Has loads of coffee, blackberry and cigar box aromas, turning to crushed blackberry. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins and an aftertaste of vanilla, blackberry and espresso.
This wine is a very dark, tightly knitted, dense and muscular wine. Currently the intensity of its youth overshadow the Margaux elegance. But this is a wine for the long term. Robert Parker wrote: "this is a masculine, powerful 2002 with abundant quantities of damp earth intertwined with jammy black fruits, licorice, smoke, and toasty wood. A saturated dense purple color is followed by a medium-bodied, solidly built wine with plenty of muscle and depth. Although not an archetypical, finesse-styled Margaux, there is plenty going on. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019"
DecanterRating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Big solid colour, lots of extraction of meaty, ripe fruit, floral and quite succulent on the palate with good tannins to back up the ripe fruit, no great depth, but very attractive fruit. At the upper end of 3 stars. Drink 2006-14. (Tasted en primeur)
