2001 ZD Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Winemaker's Notes

(From 1992 Vintage) First Place, Very Highly Recommended, California Grapevine, Feb/Mar 1995Five Stars, Restaurant Wine, Jan/Feb 1995This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Napa Valley vineyards including our Estate vineyard. The nose of spicy sweet oak reflects the 22 months of barrel aging in small American oak cooperage. Hints of cinnamon and cloves combine with ripe berries and black cherries to produce complex, rich, mouth-filling flavors with a lingering aftertaste.

(From 2005 Vintage) Likeable aromas of ripe cherries, creamy oak and creme de cassis are quickly joined by a faint but evident whiff of angularity, and that edginess reappears in the wine from mid-palate to finish. It might be possible for cellar aging to help the wine overcome its difficulties, but the risks are great.
