(From 2006 Vintage)
Our Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted in the northwestern quadrant of our estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, in gravelly soils that warm quickly in the spring. This warmer site, combined with limited yields, produces Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with bright, complex flavors, resulting in wine with deep ruby color and heady aromas of plums, blackberries, and forest-floor spice.
One of the longest growing seasons in our 40 years in Napa Valley began with a New Year’s flood and continued with an unusually cool, wet spring, then segued into a very mild summer punctuated by a record July heat wave. August and September were ideal with morning fog, mild afternoons and cool, crisp evenings, while October was dominated by unseasonably cool weather which slowed ripening, elongated the harvest and tried our patience!
Aromas of coffee and black cherry with hints of bay leaf carry through onto the palate lengthening the flavor profile. Firm tannins build alongside flavors of ripe plum fruit and walnut in this classic Napa Cabernet.
Delicious with beef, lamb and game dishes, especially those incorporating oregano, thyme, mushrooms and black pepper.
(From 2011 Vintage) Aromas of coffee and dark berries with hints of bay leaf carry through onto the palate. Firm tannins build alongside flavors of ripe plum fruit, sweet toffee and creamy oak in this classic Napa Cabernet.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2004 Vintage) 8% Merlot; 1% Cabernet Franc; 1% Petit Verdot. Ripe enough for its cassis- and cherry-like fruit to be nicely concentrated and taking on attractively rich notes of creme brulee and caramel in both its aromas and supple-textured palatal impressions, this wine is fairly full in bottle and holds on well at the end despite its light to medium tannins. Its solid structure and ample depth will hold it in good stead for four to six years.
