(2007 Vintage) Tasted 14 months after bottling, our sixth Pentad release shows glass-coating red-purple color. The nose opens with high-toned floral, tropical and coniferous notes that are reminiscent of top-end brandies. Deeper in the glass lay black plum, and delicate pungent spice notes of clove and mace. Explosive sweet red and black fruit-berry open on the palate with a mouth-filling, almost overwhelming presence with a supporting fine-grained tannin and a warming alcohol and brightness underneath. Pentad concludes with a warm, full minute long, persistent, clean finish of fruit and sweet spice. This is a complete, cohesive, whole wine of complexity, depth and length. Will be a flexible companion with food, able to play well with a range of cuisine components.
