Pinot Noir

Wine Description

(From 2006 Vintage) Turning more towards the red-fruit spectrum of aromas and flavors than in previous vintages, the 2006 HYDE VINEYARD Carneros Pinot Noir showcases layers of strawberry, cherry and cassis. To accentuate these vibrant qualities, the winemaking incorporated 20 percent whole clusters, which also contributed an exotic hint of cinnamon-clove spice. Intricate, ethereal and aromatically driven, this nuanced Pinot Noir seamlessly blends smooth tannins with natural minerality and focused acidity, yielding a wine with bright, appealing finesse and sophistication.

Winemaker's Notes

Dark, ruby red color; aromas of black cherry, espresso and nutmeg with hints of violets and dark plum; the flavors are cherry/blackberry and cola with fresh earth and mocha undertones, this is an elegant, fine grained wine with lots of supple textures, a rich creamy mouth feel and a long lasting berry and spice finish.

Expert Reviews

Good deep red. Aromas of strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, nutmeg and earth, with hints of licorice and gingerbread. Rich, dense and strong, hinting at the energetic extraction and finishing with considerable grip. Patz & Hall told me they're getting pinot from a better site within Hyde Vineyard beginning with this 2003. "The old wine was more elegant and floral, but this is denser," noted Moses. Eighty percent of this wine comes from the shy-bearing Calera clone.
