Unlike previous vintages, however, the Spring of 2001 lashed out at the vines with the worst freeze in over thirty years! Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2003 Vintage) Solidly varietal aromas of dried grasses and hay, melon and citrus are moderately rich and just a little on the pungent side. Slightly rounded yet also a touch narrow and pinched, the wine picks up a stony, minerally edge and closes with a hint of bitterness in its otherwise mildly fruity aftertaste.
