2001 Grgich Hills Cellar Chardonnay Estate Grown

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2011 Vintage) Miljenko “Mike” Grgich has been called “The King of Chardonnay” since the winery began in 1977, and you can taste why in this classically styled wine. We did not allow the Chardonnay to undergo malolactic fermentation, preserving its natural acidity. The wine’s fresh citrus and juicy peach are rounded out with rich, warm vanilla flavors and a touch of minerality that are perfect partners for fresh seafood, roasted chicken, grilled pork, and creamy cheeses.

(From 2007 Vintage) The dry, woody, almost ashy first notes in this wine's aromas are joined by just enough ripe apple fruit to keep things near to the expected track, and the wine's early flavors on the palate repeat the favor. In the finish, however, the wine runs into bothersome sharp and sour elements and falls apart.
