2001 Dynamite Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills Lake County

Wine Description

(From 2011 Vintage) This Dynamite Cabernet Sauvignon offers up aromas of black fruit, cassis and chocolate followed by flavors of luscious blackberry cobbler and toffee.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2010 Vintage) The grapes for our Cabernet Sauvignon come primarily from the Red Hills appellation in Lake County. Characterized by the red volcanic soils of the Mayacamas mountain range, this area is ideal for red varietals. The well-drained, nutrient-poor soils benefit the fruit by naturally moderating the crop load and producing intense, concentrated flavors. The rolling hills give each block a unique orientation and a range of flavors and harvest dates. At 2,000 to 2,500 feet, these vineyards are among the highest on the North Coast, resulting in large diurnal temperature swings that ripen the red grapes fully while maintaining fruit intensity and balanced acidity.

Expert Reviews
  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Leading with direct, well-ripened, cherry and cocoa aromas and following with glycerin-fattened flavors that are long on initial appeal, this full but very slightly hollow wine toughens up as it crosses the palate. Its fruit falters slightly as dryness and pushy tannins define its finish, yet it might fill out more fully with a bit of cellaring, however, and its moderate price makes the gamble well worth taking.
