2001 Beaulieu Vineyard Tapestry Reserve

Wine Description

Dark ruby in color, the Tapestry’s aromas evoke scents of black cherry, herbs, vanilla-oak and some black pepper. Medium-full bodied, the wine’s fruit flavors are at the forefront; cherry and blackcurrant, followed by nuances of licorice, dark chocolate and peppercorn. Fleshy yet backed by firm, ripe tannins, the finish shows some torrefaction notes from the oak now, but should evolve gracefully with 4-7 years in the bottle.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Creamy oak along with glimmers of milk chocolate and creme brulee add nice richness to this wine's fairly attractive aromas. It is medium-full to full-bodied in palate weight, but its supple entry runs into higher than expected levels of youthful tannins at the end. It wants more fruit to insure its long ageworthiness, even while holding its own as an enjoyable, nicely focused effort for the near- to mid-term drinking.
