Wine Description

(2014 Vintage) FUN, INTERESTING, delicious, affordable: That sums up the mission at Toad Hollow Vineyards, a winery established in 1994 in Sonoma’s famous wine town of Healdsburg. Toad Hollow is a brand that has always put wine quality first but invoked the whimsy of a critter label — a cartoon toad clad in a vest and eyeing a glass of wine — to dispel the mystique surrounding it. These people started making a dry rosé of Pinot Noir when they first opened and do you know how hard it was to sell a dry American rosé 20 years ago? “Like rolling a pink rock up a mountain,” according to a winery press release. People back then thought it was just another sweet “soda pop” wine. After all, that was the era of sweet white zinfandel, which wasn’t white, it was pink. The Pinot Noir grapes for this Toad Hollow Dry Rosé are from the Carneros region of Sonoma, which is famous for expensive Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and sparkling wine. The SRP for Toad Hollow Dry Rosé of Pinot Noir runs $12-$14, and in the month of May, bottles will carry a coupon with a $2-$3 discount for its “Rosé Days” celebration. The Toad Hollow Dry Rosé is widely available at Metro Detroit stores including Kroger, Holiday Market in Royal Oak, Nino Salvaggio in Troy and Johnny Pomodora’s Fresh Market in Farmington Hills
