(From 2005 Vintage)
The relatively warm 2005 season delivered a generously flavored Blanc de Blanc with alluring aromas of green apple, citrus and tropical fruits. Rich, tart Bayview Avenue Carneros Chardonnay forms the core, with components ranging from the Marin Coast to the Anderson Valley contributing further depth of fruit. Yeast-derived notes of fresh sourdough and toasted almond blend with hints of crème brûlée. On the palate, this lively sparkler is ripe and crisp with tangy lemon zest early on, progressing to a clean, balanced finish.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast:
"Made from 100% Chardonnay, this sparkler is just delicious, a versatile wine to have by itself, with savories, sushi or the most elegant meals. Crisp and balanced, it has rich flavors of pineapples, peach jam, brioche and vanilla, with a smoky edge. S.H." (12/31/2008)
88 Points, Wine Spectator:
"Lush and supple, offering creamy citrus and Asian pear aromas, with nicely layered lemon curd, cinnamon and ginger flavors that build to a light, crisp note. Drink now through 2011. 22,600 cases made. –TF" (7/31/2008)
The wine is dry, firm and crisp. Abundant flavors recall lemon, apple, pear and ripe melon. Small lots of malolactic and barrel-fermented wines are added for complexity. The cuvée, which is aged on the yeast about three years, maintains freshness on the palate and a crisp clean finish. Blanc de Blancs will improve with further bottle age for several years following release.
