(From 2011 Vintage) This elegantly balanced wine is deep and dark with a purple hue. Aromas of black currant and black cherry combine seamlessly with sweet notes of oak. The palate is ripe and soft, with pronounced blackberry and a hint of spice, lush tannins and sweet, subtle oak. Black currant builds on the finish.
(From 2008 Vintage) The grapes were carefully destemmed and optically sorted to ensure only perfect fruit made it into the wine. The wine was primarily barrel-fermented to provide a richer, more textured palate. The wine was gently basket-pressed before being racked to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. The finest lots were carefully chosen and blended to produce the Diamond Selection.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2002 Vintage) Direct ripe-cherry fruitiness is met by suggestions of chocolate and a fair measure of creamy oak here, and, by all counts the wine makes a fairly good start. It runs afoul of overly prominent tannins at the finish, however, and its fruit stalls out to dryness and scant heat.
