(From 2012 Vintage) AVERAGE BOTTLE PRODUCTION: Asinone is only produced in the best years, and the number of bottles depends on the quality of the vintage. Average production is about 20,000 - 40,000 bottles. The years in which it is not bottled, Asinone is "downgraded" to basic Nobile di Montepluciano. VARIETY:In the best years, Asinone is produced from 100% Sangiovese, otherwise we add about 10% Colorino and Merlot from the newer vineyards. SOIL TYPE:Soft clay, slightly skeletal. VINIFICATION: Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, with milling that includes repassing the must over the grape dregs. Fermentation and maceration take 20 - 25 days.
(From 2009 Vintage) A full-bodied red with depth, the wine offers round notes of roasted plums, berries, black cherries, fresh herbs and mocha. Hints of tar, smoke and licorice linger on the long and creamy finish with vibrant tannins and acids on the finish.
