Wine Description

(From 2005 Vintage) The 2005 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red, a vibrant, deeply colored wine, offers a nose complex in aromas of crème de cassis, tobacco, dark chocolate, dark fruit, graphite and spice. The extraordinary structure of this wine encompasses a palate that is full-bodied and rich, offering excellent acidity and finely grained tannins. The length is impeccable and lasts seemingly for minutes after the last swallow. A truly irresistible wine to try now but certainly one that should also hold for decades.

PORTHOS INSIDER SCOOP: Pahlmeyer is a personal favorite and one of a few Cabernets I collect for the Porthos Personal cellar each vintage. Pahlmeyer has been a 'cult' collector sensation ever since it was featured as actress Demi Moores favorite wine in the 1994 film, Disclosure, starring Michael Douglas. Thanks to our friendship with proprietor Jayson Pahlmeyer, Porthos is allocated more of this wine than any other source but the demand is still far higher than our limited 'supply'! Porthos Taste? An extremely rich, plush, sophisticated style with great intensity and concentration, offering layers of currant, black cherry, melted chocolate and cedar notes floating along a silky smooth texture. Shows restraint and nuance on the finish. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2008 through 2012. (hide)
