Deep, saturated ruby-red. Sweet aromas of cassis, coffee and licorice. Superconcentrated, voluptuous and seamless, with outstanding density of fruit. The compellingly sweet, urgent dark berry flavors carry through to an extremely long, broad, sweetly tannic finish.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesHere is a comparatively restrained young Cabernet that counts on careful proportion and polish to procure its star. Its layered aromas of currants and sweet wood spice and its carefully bal-anced flavors impress by dint of their quiet complexities backed by compact fruit. Rich and oaky at the finish, it seems capable of improving for several years.
International Wine CellarBright medium ruby. Aromatic nose combines blackberry, black cherry, espresso and violet. Tightly wound, even a bit tart, owing to strong acids and rather dominant oakiness. Has less flesh to support its oak than the 2001 merlot, with the result that the tannins come across as chalkier and considerably more dominant today.
