The focus at Etude begins with the grapes in the vineyard. Small vineyard lots are densely planted and the winery team adheres to sustainable winemaking practices.
“Inviting aromas of black plum, blueberry and licorice leap from the glass of this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and lead to layers of gingerbread spice and mint. … The palate is full of dark fruit supported by supple tannins that are long and fine,” Jon Priest, winemaker.
"Etude's 2005 defines power and authority, Napa style. It's hard to imagine a Cabernet Sauvignon more explosive in blackberry, cherry and chocolate fruit flavor. Yet the structure is superb, with firm but ultra refined tannins providing an architecture to house all that richness. Beautiful now, and should age gracefully ." - From Wine Enthusiast Magazine

(From 2001 Vintage) "Enormously complex, deep, dark, rich and polished, with layers of concentrated black cherry, blackberry, currant and anise. Framed by pretty toasty oak, the fruit holds a firm upper hand, turning richly tannic on the finish. Best from 2004 through 2015."-Wine Spectator
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2001 Vintage) High in loamy, woodsy, caramelly complexities and solidly fruity in both nose and mouth, this fairly full-bodied bottling is supple and ever so slightly fleshy in palatefeel with underlying strata of ripe fruit, tannin and a dollop of finishing heat. Its solid center of fruit and good depth carries it and allows full expression of its black cherry, curranty, oaky flavors, and those attractions hold admirably in the lingering aftertaste.
Wine Spectator(From 2001 Vintage) "A bold, rich, concentrated wine with lots of flavor dimensions and excellent structure. Dense and complex, with currant, anise, cedar and fresh earth flavors, it picks up chocolate and mocha on the finish, and should only get better over the next couple of years. Best from 2005 through 2013. 2,200 cases made. (JL)"
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 1998 Vintage) Effusively aromatic with an impressive measure of curranty fruit overlain with toasty oak, a touch of dried herbs and uniquely varietal glints of loamy earth and forest floor, this rich, plushly textured youngster is as complex in flavor as it is in smell, and it shows a sense of grace and a certain polish that are simply not the norms of 1998. More than a simple display of ripeness and expensive barrels, the wine keys on defined Cabernet character throughout, and its winemaker earns special kudo...
