Vina Almaviva Puente Alto

Wine Description

(1999 Vintage) A ripe black cherry stained wine. Powerful and intense, the nose is cooked forest berries, cherry pips, cassis, boysenberry, mineral and resin. Toast, grilled espresso beans and bitter chocolate accompany cigar tobacco leaves and bitter almond. On the palate, the dense and vivacious attack evolves toward a strong structure of round, tight and refined tannins. The excellent concentration of berries, prunes and dark cocoa persists, and aromas of smooth coffee linger on the palette. A singular balance and wonderful finesse, the finish has great persistence.

(2003 Vintage) Saturated ruby. Explosive, powerful aromas of creme de cassis, blackberry, cherry preserves and smoked meat, complicated further by notes of licorice, an almost iron-like peaty quality and espresso. Broad, dense and lush, the dark fruit qualities repeating with great authority on the palate and showing impressive sweetness but also focus and persistence. This has the length and complexity of a high-end Bordeaux, and a concentration and sweetness that bode well for long-term development.

(2004 Vintage) Ruby-red.Understated redcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by smoky herbs, tobacco and minerals. Graceful red fruit flavors stain the palate, taking a bitter cherry turn on the firmly tannic but silky finish and leaving behind a strong impression of floral pastille. This is one suave, deep wine.
