(From 1998 Vintage) A dense purple color is accompanied by a tannic, smoky, concentrated, earthy wine with abundant blackberry and cassis fruit, underbrush, minerals, and a steely character, and a powerful, tannic finish.
Wine & SpiritsThe 1989 Lafon-Rochet may ultimately eclipse the tannic, brawny, ageworthy 1986. Certainly it will have more charm and appeal in its youth than the 1986. Dark ruby, with an intense bouquet of overripe cassis, this chewy, well-endowed, full-bodied wine is reminiscent of the excellent 1970. Opulent as well as tannic, it may justify an outstanding rating in a decade. It is a traditionally made, surprisingly big wine. Anticipated maturity: 1996-2015.
