(From 2008 Vintage) The charming town of Haro in Northern Spain’s Rioja region is home to Bodegas Ramón Bilbao. The vineyard’s Ramón Bilbao Reserva—a garnet-hued blend of 90 percent Tempranillo and 10 percent Mazuelo and Graciano grapes—is aged in oak for 20 months, giving it balsamic and tobacco notes over a background of chocolate and coconut. Full bodied with a vivid acidity, this complex red gives a lingering finish of cigar box, fruit preserve, spices, licorice, and leather. Pair it with spicy dishes, like curries, red meats and cured cheeses.
