Wine Description

Rich in oak and rich in fruit, this deep, well-ripened offering delivers a solid measure of cassis with a wealth of vanilla and a mild overlay of dusty spice. It is moderately full-bodied and nicely balanced in feel, and its sense of developing suppleness portends very good things to come.

Grapes were hand picked at optimal maturity and crushed into stainless steel fermenting tanks. Fermentation lasted 7-10 days, with peak juice temperatures reaching 85°F. The must was gently pumped over/punched down 2-3 times per day to carefully extract aroma and flavor components. Pressed at dryness, the individual vineyard lots were transferred to a variety of barrels for malolactic fermentation and extended aging.     (From 2002 Vintage) Rich oak and ripeness are met with a broad measure of sweet black cherry fruit first in the aromas and then in the deep, well-composed flavors of this solid, moderately full-bodied offering. There is a puckery edge of latter-palate tannins still to be resolved, but the wine's considerable fruit carries well even at the finish, and a wait of some four to six years seems the sure prescription for genuine success.
