Wine Description

Rich in oak and rich in fruit, this deep, well-ripened offering delivers a solid measure of cassis with a wealth of vanilla and a mild overlay of dusty spice. It is moderately full-bodied and nicely balanced in feel, and its sense of developing suppleness portends very good things to come.

A case of Beaulieu - BV 1998 Tapestry Reserve and a free The Rabbit Corkscrew(a $40 value) 1998 Tapestry Reserve Dark ruby in color, the 1998 Tapestry’s aromas evoke scents of black cherry, herbs, vanilla-oak and some black pepper. Medium-full bodied, the wine’s fruit flavors are at the forefront; cherry and blackcurrant, followed by nuances of licorice, dark chocolate and peppercorn.     (From 1998 Vintage) 79% Cabernet Sauvignon; 17% Merlot; 2% Cabernet Franc; 2% Petit Verdot. We count ourselves among the most enthu-siastic fans of the 1997 Tapestry and are more than a little bit disappointed by its successor. There is an early stab at richness delivered by a nice note of sweet oak and suggestions of ripe cherries in both nose and flavors, but those flavors stall out by mid-palate and fade away to a drying finish that is underscored by blunting tannins.

Ripe, brambly, coffee and black cherry aromas showcase the varietal, while black olive and dark cocoa scents suggest the wine's Rutherford origin. Medium full-body and firm structure dominant, with the cherry-plum and herb Merlot adding nuance in the finish. Chewy tannins, fine minerality, with vanilla oak-spice adding an elegant touch of sweetness.

    (From 2005 Vintage) 12% Merlot; 4% Cabernet Franc; 2% Malbec; 2% Petit Verdot. Nicely assembled red and black cherry fruit aromas are joined by suggestions of vanilla beans and rich loam, and while this wine has some of the same attractive elements as the bottlings above, it is less complete overall and seemingly less keen in its focus. Its pieces are in good proportion, and a grabby edge of tannin will go away with a bit of bottle age.

    (From 2002 Vintage) Rich oak and ripeness are met with a broad measure of sweet black cherry fruit first in the aromas and then in the deep, well-composed flavors of this solid, moderately full-bodied offering. There is a puckery edge of latter-palate tannins still to be resolved, but the wine's considerable fruit carries well even at the finish, and a wait of some four to six years seems the sure prescription for genuine success.
