(From 2003 Vintage) Firm and intense, with a mix of earthy currant, sage, cedar and spice, both in the aromas and on the palate. Turns supple and elegant midpalate, before the tannins firm up on the finish.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2001 Vintage) 12% Merlot; 4% Cabernet Franc; 1 Petit Verdot. There is much to like about this, open, rich wine with its red cherry and herb components filled out by sweet, creme brulee oak. Its aromas tend a bit to Merlot, and, so also do its accessible, supple flavors of ripe cherries, cappuccino, loam and quiet notes of herb. It is readier to drink than its mate and softer in approach, and, for the price, it is worth remembering.
