WINEMAKER'S NOTE
Already slowed by El Niño’s winter flooding, the growing season of 1998 extended into late October, promoting a very long ripening period for Opus One’s grapes. Supple and lush, the 1998 Opus One shows an opaque purple color and intense aromas of blackberries, vanilla, and roasted espresso. The wine offers superb balance, a resilient middle body and a seamless texture.

  • Background
1998 saw a late harvest with perfect berry set and above-average yields. Cluster thinning in July allowed for even ripening and classic flavor development. The 1998 Opus One offers sweet caramel and spice on the nose, with fruit-forward notes of blackberries, chocolate and tobacco. A complex and elegant wine, its firm structure portends resilience and longevity.

Opus One 1998. Very fine complex oak and blackcurrant bouquet, rich, powerful and concentrated.
