(From 2008 Vintage) Open fruit, rich, lush and layered, serving up a complex mix of plum, blackberry, black licorice and spices. Full-bodied and supple-textured, ending with a long, persistent finish that keeps repeating the core flavor themes.
(From 2011 Vintage) A dark, scarlet red color, with powerful aromas of sweet ripe cabernet grapes. Initial impressions are fantastically appealing, brooding to expansive textural sensations of finely grained cacao tannins. The whole of the wine is balanced, rich, expressive and impressively complex. The backbone of fine tannin and sweet ripeness is a carry-over from perfectly mature fruit.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesWhile its cassis-like fruit and loamy earth accents mark it clearly as varietal, and its pleasant oak sweetness brings it an extra bit of immediate attraction, this tasty, mildly tannic Cabernet is easy enough to like, but nowhere does it show the kind of depth or drama that might reasonably be expected by its inflated price. It has a little room for improvement, and, while it may not grow for decades, it should soften a touch and fill out just a bit with three or four years of age.
