Vina Almaviva Puente Alto

Wine Description

(1997 Vintage) This wine is dark ruby with slight copper reflections. The first nose is an amber bouquet of molasses, coffee, caramel, leather, bay and white pepper, which later evolves to reveal a beautiful presence of very ripe blackberries and grilled orange peels, complimented by peat and earthy minerals. On the finish, roasted coffee beans. On the palate, the attack is hearty, full of bitter chocolate and dark berry jam on a smoky background. The tannins are powerful and firm. The rich flavors remain present throughout the lengthy finish.

(2003 Vintage) Saturated ruby. Explosive, powerful aromas of creme de cassis, blackberry, cherry preserves and smoked meat, complicated further by notes of licorice, an almost iron-like peaty quality and espresso. Broad, dense and lush, the dark fruit qualities repeating with great authority on the palate and showing impressive sweetness but also focus and persistence. This has the length and complexity of a high-end Bordeaux, and a concentration and sweetness that bode well for long-term development.

(2004 Vintage) Ruby-red.Understated redcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by smoky herbs, tobacco and minerals. Graceful red fruit flavors stain the palate, taking a bitter cherry turn on the firmly tannic but silky finish and leaving behind a strong impression of floral pastille. This is one suave, deep wine.
