1997 Silverado Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Reserve
WINEMAKER'S NOTE
While Silverado Vineyards has been producing excellent Cabernet Sauvignon since 1981, the 1997 vintage marked only the eighth time a Limited Reserve was produced. Rich fruit and spice on the palate with firm tannins and balanced acidity, full body; long concentrated finish. Maceration on skins was 22 day; aged average of 22 months in 53 percent new ballels of French oak. Sleeping quitely for ten years at Silverado Vineyards.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
This wine's moderately concentrated, properly ripened cassis-like fruit is constant and controlled, and its complement of oak enriches the mix without threatening to dominate. It is a fairly deep, neatly tailored wine that takes few chances but succeeds nicely in the style that it claims. And, while we find its price more ambitious than its achievement warrants, it is nonetheless a well-made young Cabernet.

Sleek and elegant, rich and polished, with a pretty array of herb, black cherry, mint, wild berry, chocolate, anise and tar, finishing with firm yet supple tannins. Best from 2002 through 2012. -Wine Spectator
