(From 2006 Vintage) The unmistakable signature of vanilla bean and coconut scents fold in nicely with taut yet supple tiers of cedar, black cherry, currant and berry jam notes. Full-bodied, ending with firm, structured tannins.
The 1997 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a wine of great intensity. It has a dark ruby color and displays a nose of cassis, violets, unsweetened cocoa and roasting coffee. This wine is rich and extracted with a long, rich, fruity finish with a medium tannic grip. The 1997 will continue to improve through 2022 with proper cellaring.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesSporting all of the flashy oak that has helped create its cult-wine status, this sweetly scented effort displays elements of cocoa, vanilla and toasted coconut as adjuncts to its central theme of black cherryish fruit. Fairly smooth and supple, the wine sets its fruit against unabashed oakiness in the mouth as well, and that fundamental impression of fruit stays the course and invites a half dozen years of cellaring.
