Paul Hobbs Winery Chardonnay Kunde Vineyard Sonoma Valley

Wine Details

Wine Description

Clear yellow straw, opalescent; honey, orange blossom, crème caramel, pear and apricot, spicy apple aromas; rich mouthful of ripe peaches and pear, smooth and lingering on the finish with a note of vanilla and butterscotch. The vines for these grapes eke out an existence on a small dry-farmed hillside block just above the winery.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(1999 Vintage) Simply spilling over with rich oak spice, ripe fruit and close to pungent toastiness in the nose, this unrestrained display of all-out winemaking is every bit as big, fat and unsubtle in flavor as promised. Late-arriving acidity counters the wine's tendencies to corpulence, and the slightly edgy finish gets a little coarse and overly keyed on oak. Fans of blockbuster Chardonnays will be more than happy here, but another year of softening should make a good thing even better.
