Very good deep red ruby. Black cherry, licorice and a hint of menthol on the nose. Sweet and deceptively tasteable today. Shows more complexity and personality than the normale, as well as more size and structure. Finishes with even, tongue dusting tannins.
Drinking wonderfully at the moment, but will improve further with age. Aromas of berry, mint, roses and violets follow through to a medium-to full-bodied palate, with round, velvety tannins and a ripe fruit aftertaste. Drink now through 2010.

Typically the most internationally-styled Gaja offering, the 1997 comes across as a Nebbiolo on steroids. Full-bodied, gorgeously pure and symmetrical, it should be at its best between 2002-2025."
