(2012 Vintage) with deep, ripe aromas of crushed blackberries, dark cherries, bittersweet chocolate and violets. The highly saturated black-fruit flavors echo the aromas as they expand across the palate and persiston the finish. Nuances of toffee and toasted oak spices, from aging in 100 percent new French oak barrels, add even more complexity.
An extraordinary wine, dense, rich and earthy, with broad, plush tannins and tiers of complex currant, earth, cedar, black cherry, mineral and anise flavors. Keeps a tight focus on the long, rich, detailed aftertaste. Best from 2002 through 2010. 17,000 cases made.
International Wine CellarRating: 86(+?)? - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 93, November/December 2000 Saturated ruby. Perfumed aromas of dark berries and exotic spices, plus a whiff of apple; showed a sweet bourbon note with aeration. Supple flavors of redcurrant and black cherry, along with a faint raisiny quality. Finishes with light tannins, a strong bourbon flavor and some dryness from the oak. Too oaky for this taster.
