(From 2011 Vintage) ZD Pinot Noirs can be deep and lovely wines at the best of times, but even in those times, they often tended to come with more than their share of pushy, roasted vanilla bean oak that gave them a singular character and tended to bother people who liked their oak to be more classically Burgundian in style. Happily, this one seems suited to all palates with its ZD-like depth, its supple yet slightly firm structure and a caramelly, lightly toasted oak overlay that seems perfectly fit to the rest of its personality. Try mating a standing rib roast to its rich flavors.
(From 2012 Vintage) This Pinot Noir made with grapes harvested from a Napa Valley Carneros vineyard has a medium ruby color and aromas of briary strawberry and raspberry preserves. Subtle hints of vanilla give way to a lush, silky palate with more bright fruit, rhubarb, and cedar notes. Ten months aging in French Oak barrels resulted in a delicious Pinot Noir wine with great depth and complexity.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2003 Vintage) Well-ripened cherries are teamed up with lightly creamy, vanilla-tinged oak in the pleasant, mid-mass aromas of this generally likeable wine. If somewhat blunted at present by a finishing note of acid-pushed tannin, it conveys reasonable fruit and a nice bit of flesh in the mouth, and it is destined to improve with a few years of further cellaring.
