Winemaker's Notes

Made from 30 year old Nebbiolo vines, Pio Boffa handles this wine in much the same way as his Barbaresco and Barolo. Oak aging in a combination of French (20%) and Slavonian oak for roughly two years produces a serious Nebbiolo that can age for ten years or longer. This intense wine possesses a fragrant nose, delicately scented with vanilla and mature berry fruit. Full and soft on the palate, the flavors develop into a long, persistent finish.

The Barbaresco is made from various estate-owned vineyards in Treiso. Roughly 30% of the wine was aged in French oak, which gives this Barbaresco a slightly modern accent without compromising what is a ...

(From 2004 Vintage) "Extremely attractive aromas of blackberry, fresh mushroom and mahogany. Full-bodied, with lovely fruit, soft tannins and a long finish. Chewy, yet balanced and pretty. Builds on the palate. Big and juicy. Best after 2010. 7,000 cases made."

(From 2001 Vintage) "Very pretty plum and fresh flower aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Layered and serious. Very close to the fabulous 1997. Best after 2009. 7,000 cases made."
