Wine Details

Wine Description

Dried cranberry, currant, fresh earth and mineral flavors, ending with dry earthy tannins. The 1996 harvest came very early, and the Cabernet crop was very small, which resulted in deep rich flavors in the fruit, and thus the wine. As usual, they blended Cabernet Franc and Merlot into this Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes add a breadth and complexity to the final wine while their similarity to Cabernet Sauvignon maintains a consistent and harmonious character. This vintage, like all their Cabernets, will improve for many years if properly stored.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2009 Vintage) Over many decades, Mayacamas Vineyards has garnered a reputation for consistently producing one of the longest-lived, classic style Cabernet Sauvignons in the Napa Valley. Fresh and vibrant in its youth, Mayacamas Cabernet ages effortlessly in the cellar. The 2009 vintage is no exception – the effusive nose is packed with aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry, sage, licorice, fig and red rose, while the bright acidity and firm but elegant tannins suggest much life ahead. Full of spirit and energy, 2009 is a classic year for Mayacamas.
