1996 Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac

Wine Description

(From 1998 Vintage) Pure blackcurrant nose with a touch of pencil lead. Tight now but fine powerful black fruits underneath. Well-defined. Cigar-box. Good grip and depth. Excellent effort.

Winemaker's Notes

Explosive, superripe aromas of black raspberry, lead pencil and sweet oak. Velvety-sweet and pungently oaky in the mouth, with a firm supporting spine of acidity giving the wine a vibrant, sappy quality. Finishes very long, with substantial but lush tannins. Potentially the finest vintage yet from this estate.
