This classic cuvee is always derived exclusively from 1er Cru vineyards. In the past, we had experimented with a cuvee drawn exclusively from the “Les Burnins” vineyard that Alain barrel-fermented and barrel-aged for us. But, after several vintages, we concluded that the essential minerality of this terroir was somewhat muted by the treatment is barrel and we reverted to working with this single cuvee. Our Montagny 1er Cru then emphasizes the heady freshness brought to this appellation from the limestone-silex soil that marks the best of the wines of this appellation. This cuvee is normally bottled in May or June following the harvest.
