(From 2005 Vintage) Margaux du Château Margaux 2009 was produced from a great vintage, and posseses all those attributes: a deep, dark colour, a rich nose, it is voluptuous, already complex where flowery and spicy hints mingle with those of cocoa. The impression on the mouth reflects the intensity of the aromas; it is full-flavoured, rich and impressive, structured by well-softened tannins. The finish is soft, both warm and fresh. This wine is very powerful and concentrated - even more so than the first and second wines, and is quite remarkably open and easy to drink, which is probably owing to the personality of the vintage as much as to the Château Margaux terroir.
From the early summer until the end of the crop, a truly great vintage. The wine already shows its distinctive characteristics: power, depth, complexity, but also dedicacy, subtlety and harmony. With its concentrated structure, 1995 recalls the 1986, while its elegance and charm remind us of the 1990. Perhaps a perfect compromise?
Wine & SpiritsThe 1995 has fleshed out, developed more intensity, in addition to some stunning aromatics since I tasted it last spring. It appears to be a sensational Chateau Margaux that should take its place alongside some of the great wines produced at this estate under the Mentzelopoulos regime. Will this vintage ultimately rival the 1990, 1986, 1983, or 1982? I doubt it, but this majestic wine is not far off the mark of those classics. The winersquo;s opaque purple color is followed by a fabulously sweet nose of black fruits, licorice, smoke, and the alluring floral scents that are so typical of Chateau read more...Margaux. There is admirable flavor intensity and presence on the palate, as well as layers of black fruits, full body, and well-integrated toasty oak, acidity, and tannin. In comparison with other great vintages, it is not as creamy-textured and flattering as the 1990, but neither is it as backward and tannic as the 1986. Given the fact that it has developed so spectacularly in cask, this should be a Chateau Margaux to drink between 2005ndash;2025. (hide)
