Wine Description

(1993 Vintage) Integrated layers of fruit, floral, and oak tones lead to velvety tiers of black cherry, plums, violets and cocoa, followed by sweet spice, vanilla and toasty oak notes that linger on the long finish.

(2003 Vintage) Mondavi's basic Cabernet starts out well enough with attractive aromas of ripe cherries and fairly rich oak, but its simple flavors run afoul of blunting tannins, and its fundamental fruit is lost to tongue-drying astringency. In need of some five or more years of softening, it never finds a sufficiently fruity voice to convince us that it will age into beauty.
