Winemaker's Notes

(From 2007 Vintage) This is it - the release we’ve all been waiting for – our big estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the exciting and age-worthy 2007 vintage. With ample structure, blue-black fruit and great aging potential, this phenomenal wine is reminiscent of past vintages of our Reserve Cabernet. The nose expresses gorgeous flavors of cassis, black raspberry compote, cocoa and blueberry. The mouth is firm yet round, with intense flavors that evolve in the glass and balance the wine’s structure. The final blend is composed of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot from our Wind Whistle and Callie’s vineyard blocks, and 6% Petit Verdot. The wine was blended and bottled in July 2009, and has been bottle aged for four months. (hide)

(From 2007 Vintage) Good full, bright ruby. Precise aromas of blackberry, minerals, menthol, cedar and slate. Supple and suave, with a slightly high-toned quality to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. A real crushed-berry bomb, with good acid cut and supple broad tannins. Steve Pride noted that this wine was more aggressive in the mid-rsquo;90s; the winery introduced a gentler destemmer with vintage 2008 and is now pressing the fruit more gently. Therersquo;s now less in the way of oak tannins in the finished wines, he added.

  • Robert Parker
(From 2010 Vintage) The enticing nose is loaded with ripe blackberries, cherry, plum, subtle tarry notes, dark chocolate and resinous underbrush. The palate is a seamless mesh of velvety tannins with vibrant acidity and undulating layers of fruit, tobacco and spice notes.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2002 Vintage) Rating: 94/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines on Dec-06 Intensely aromatic and redolent of raspberries, cassis, cocoa and touches of loam, this very rich and powerful young wine follows through with wonderfully concentrated flavors that are every bit as big and fully filled as expected. Although its sheer sense of mass and immediacy will hold it in reasonable stead as a near-term partner to meats on the bone, it has the strength and the structure to ...
