Winemaker's Notes

(From 1996 Vintage) The aromas are somewhat exotic, melding earthy aromas with dark cherry and blackberry notes and highlighted by hints of violet and lavender. The flavors match the aromas with sandalwood and vanilla just beginning to give ground to the greater fruit below. It finishes long and silky, revealing its cherry core in the delicious finish. It will evolve to be fuller and fruitier and will age gracefully for five years.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2006 Vintage) 10% Cabernet Sauvignon; 7% Syrah. Elements of red cherries, rooty spice and dried herbs speak directly to varietal basics, and this wine initially shows a bit of the palatal roundness that we expect from Merlot, but things are presently cut off in the latter palate by pushy acidity, and it needs three of four years before smoothing into shape.
