Wine Description

(1990 Vintage) Nose of blackcurrant and toasty french oak. Tastes of blackberries, blackcurrant and violets. A bit on the bretty side for my tastes. Nicely balanced with lots of acidity. Not showing much complexity on the mid palate or finish to merit an outstanding score.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(2006 Vintage) 50% Merlot; 45% Cabernet Sauvignon; 5% Petit Verdot. A touch sweeter in scent owing to both obvious ripeness and an extra measure of rich oak, Lascombes intimates a sense of juiciness that separates it from its classmates in 2006. It is a touch dry at the finish, and its relatively fine-gained tannins afford it room to grow without adding prohibitive toughness.

(2002 Vintage) "A candidate for one of the top wines of the vintage, Lascombes has turned in a brilliant effort with a deep ruby/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of plums, cassis, black cherries, and flowers. It boasts a terrific texture, medium to full body, an expansive, multi-layered mid-palate and a tremendously pure finish revealing nicely integrated wood, acidity, alcohol, and tannin. This is a beauty of precision and power. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020."
