Wine Description

(1989 Vintage) Normal weather patterns prevailed during the long, cool growing season which produced typical crop levels. Unseasonably cool weather – which included late September and October rains – delayed the harvest, producing lower sugars and lean, vigorous wines.

Drank at the same time as an Opus One 1989. The 1996 was superior to the 1989 who had started its decline. We completed this meal with a Bel Air Bordeaux who was not at par with the two Opus One we had opened.

(1996 Vintage) Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 90, May/June 2000. Bright full ruby-red. Pungent black raspberry, leather, game, chocolate, espresso, pepper and fresh herbs. Juicy, bright and very concentrated, with crunchy currant, tobacco and dark chocolate flavors supported and amplified by a firm spine of acidity. Long on personality. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent length.

(1995 Vintage) "A shade more elegant and refined than the '94, yet sharing the delicious range of flavors, with bright black cherry, plum and floral notes. Turns smooth and polished.--Opus One vertical. Best from 2003 through 2014. 30,000 cases made."
