1989 Chateau Montelena The Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2009 Vintage) Aged for 14 months in a combination of French and Eastern European oak (14% new), the wine's deep ruby color hints at the aromas and flavors to come – dense notes of black cherries, red berries, and plums lead to hints of toasty oak and vanilla, with smoky undertones. Silky, fine-grained tannins and balanced acids buttress flavors of ripe plums, dried black fruits and sweet spices.

very good wine but softer when compared to Dominus 1989 and montelena 1994. wine developed nicely over the evening, picking up a bit more power and taste and time progressed, even though wine was decanted for more than 3 hours. lovely.

vivacious nose and follow through. like a wild teacher next to a straight laced stag leap school kid. nose developed throughout the night giving hints of medicinal herbal tones.
