1989 Chateau Meyney St. Estephe

Wine Description

(From 2009 Vintage) Spicy and beautiful with blackberry and currant character, black red, deep, quite leathery fruit, good smoky, fleshy flavours, ripe and broad with good tannins, and a long finish.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2012 Vintage) Meyney 2012 presents a deep colour with hints of violet. The nose develops notes of blackcurrant and other small black fruit, with a hint of slightly peppery spiciness combined with voluptuous, well-integrated woody notes. The palate reveals a gentle, harmonious wine that promises to age well. Rather unusually for Meyney, due to weather conditions that particularly favoured the Merlot, the proportion of Merlot in the blend for the Grand Vin is higher than that of Cabernet Sauvignon.

(From 2000 Vintage) Rating: 2/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Good ripe damson fruit, which is nicely warm spicy and rich. A touch woody and hard on the palate. Drink 2004. (tasted en primeur)
