1985 Chateau Lynch Bages Pauillac

Wine Description

(From 2010 Vintage) This is densely packed, with loads of crushed fig, plum and blackberry. Shows ample tobacco, roasted apple wood and bittersweet cocoa notes as well, but stays defined, with a long, authoritative finish that delivers waves of grip, backed by even more grip.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2008 Vintage) Fairly deep ruby. Cigar and herbal notes with a thick palate of dark berry flavours; the tannins are firm and austere. The palate and finish is dry/astringent; this wine needs a lot of time - give it 4-6 years before approaching. This wine was tasted blind alongside 24 other top Cabernet-based reds from around the world.

To my great disappointment, the bottle i opened in August 2011 was well past its prime. Since I was unable to taste it at its best, I will reserve judgment and only caution others that if you have an '85 Lynch-Bages at home, open it soon - it's probably already too late.
