1974 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Petite Sirah

Winemaker's Notes

(From 1999 Vintage) An ebullient bouquet of blackberry and plum unfurls on tendrils of leather and peppered tobacco. This wines boldness continues in a burst of black cherry in the mouth, gaining immediate balance from restrained tannins that carry the fruit gently through a velvety finish. Try with boeuf Bourguignon or goat cheese and grilled vegetable pizza.

(From 2001 Vintage) Here is a mid-sized Merlot that eschews strength and evident extract in favor of polish. Its mild black-cherry themes are given a lift by slightly creamy oak, and, if tending a little to dryness at the finish, it is a pleasant, lightly tannic and wholly useful wine for near- to mid-term drinking.
