(From 2012 Vintage) Penfolds Bin 128 is a regional wine that reflects the unique climate and growing conditions of South Australia’s Coonawarra district and the relatively elegant style of cool-climate Shiraz. From the 1980 vintage, French oak replaced American, highlighting the pepper, spice and floral characteristics that define this style. Since this time, greater attention to fruit flavour ripeness has structurally resulted in a more complete and complex wine style.

A distinctly Barossa nose of dark chocolate, blueberry and a hint of liquorice.
Mouthfilling and expansive on the palate, the wine is bigger and richer than
the cues afforded by the nose, and undeniably assertive and defined. A
generously flavoured RWT with dark berried fruits and spice courted by
pronounced ripe tannins, culminating in an impressive lingering finish.

Wine & Spirits(From 2002 Vintage) Penfolds' Red Wine Trail takes Grange-level shiraz (50 percent from Kalimna) and ages it in French rather than American oak. Its flavors carry a Barossa signature without going too ripe. In fact, this 2001 tastes like black currants and fresh cherries preserved at the exact moment of peak ripeness. The other way it's marked as a Barossa shiraz is the floral character, here equally fresh, cool as dew on violets. The French oak may have helped lock in the vibrant magenta color, and it may emphasize the supple richness fo texture. But the main play is in the fruit, hight-toned, sunny, beautifully grown.
Wine Buyer(From 2005 Vintage) Youthful and lively, the wine shows dark fruitsand menthol flavours with an excellent, rich midpalate. Tingling (natural) acidity coupled withstylish oak and prominent tannins offers grip,tightness and definition. While this wine needstime, it is certainly appealing and of interest inyouth. Wine & Spirits(From 2006 Vintage) The 2006 Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz was made primarily from Barossa Valley fruit. It was aged for 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Aromas of soy, pepper, lavender, blueberry, and licorice lead to a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with layers of spicy black fruit, enough structure to evolve for 4ndash;6 years, and a lengthy finish. Drink this nicely priced wine from 2013 to 2021.
