1961 Chateau La Lagune Haut-Medoc

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2000 Vintage) The fact that owner Patrick Moulin used less than 50% of his crop for the Grand Vin goes some way to explaining why this wine is so good in 2000. The rich strawberry and cassis fruit is concentrated yet delicate, combining purity, balance and sophisticated charm. A wonderful wine.
Drinking from 2008-2020.

(From 2000 Vintage) Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Evocative sweet berry fruit and complementary oak. Luscious with density and depth. Finely coated tannins with a fine future ahead. Drink 5-10+ years.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2006 Vintage) 60% Cabernet Sauvignon; 30% Merlot; 10% Petit Verdot. Subtle suggestions of dried herbs and a bit of woodsy spice serve as accents to deep, well-ripened, curranty fruit in this comparatively supple and easy-to-taste effort. It is nicely balanced if nominally coarse, and, while sufficiently tannic to grow for a number of years, it offers a good deal to like even now.
