1960 Chateau Palmer Margaux

Wine Description

(From 2004 Vintage) Purple-ruby color of very high intensity. Expressive nose of very ripe dark berries, bracken, cinnamon, wood, peony, violet, smoke, and fresh mint. Perfectly ripe fruitiness, full, tender tannins and lots of freshness in the mouth. Elegance is the prevailing note here with an ideal expression of the terroir. The finish is already long and gorgeous.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2007 Vintage) A refined, silky-textured Palmer with all the early-drinking charm of the vintage but atypical intensity, luscious fruit and high Merlot content (49%). A wonderful nose of cool black fruit, minerals and toffee is followed by a mouthfilling palate with fine, ripe tannins, attractive cedar notes and a lingering, pure cassis and plum finish.

(From 2005 Vintage) This spectacular offering should continue to improve, and may merit an even higher score after additional aging. Stunningly rich and powerful, the dark purple-tinged 2005 Palmer is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. Aromas of incense, burning embers, black currants, plums, licorice, and flowers are followed by a full-bodied Margaux with more weight and power even than its nearby first-growth rival, Chateau Margaux. The abundant acidity and tannins are beautifully coated by the winersquo;s exceptional fruit extract and overall harmony and richness. It is so concentrated that one is hard pressed to find even a hint of new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2017ndash;2045+.
