1960 Chateau Beychevelle Grand Cru Classe Saint-Julien

Wine Description

(From 2008 Vintage) This ageworthy, elegant, well-made Beychevelle displays copious red and black cherry fruit notes intertwined with dusty, loamy soil and oak undertones, decent acidity, moderate tannin and impressive intensity as well as length.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2000 Vintage) The 2000 vintage is characterised by its very clean, pleasant, nicely-pronounced fruity qualities (blackberries and cherry) and flesh with great length in the mouth and good acidity providing nice balance. The tannins are present - ripe and in no way astringent. This vintage has more tannic structure than the last and has great ageing potential. Probably the best wine in the last 10 years. 49% Cabernet Sauvignon 38% Merlot 7% Cabernet Franc 6% Petit Verdot

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2006 Vintage) 62% Cabernet Sauvignon; 31% Merlot; 5% Cabernet Franc; 2% Petit Verdot. If a bit shy on overt fruitiness, this solid young wine comes with a good sense of essential extract and teases with glimmers of black fruits, olive and loamy earth elements in both its concentrated aromas and flavors. It toughens up at the finish as befits a young claret, but its fruit holds on and convinces that a wait of five years is worthwhile.
